Krmí se zejména směsmi drobných semen různých druhů pros, mohárem, čumízou a lesknicí. Krmení je vhodné i máčet a nechávat naklíčit. V době hnízdění se přikrmuje vaječnou míchanicí. Přídavkem mohou být různé druhy ovoce, zeleniny a spousta krmných přísad vitaminů a minerálií, které se dají sehnat běžně v obchodech s chovatelskými potřebami.
